Frozen Pizza Roll or Homemade Pizza roll
You may wonder why I won’t make them but buy frozen ones instead? The truth is that not every day you feel like baking or cooking, and those are the days that these snacks will be helpful. You pour them into an air fryer basket and cook for 5 to 7 minutes depending on the quantity and brand of an air fryer you use.
Which Method Should You Use to Heat Pizza roll?
There are 3 options when it comes to cooking frozen pizza rolls. You can either bake them in the oven, heat them in the microwave or air fry them. The best result can be achieved with an air fryer.
As an alternative, most people prefer baking or microwave cooking, making the pizza roll soggy and producing a gummy texture. They still taste good, but for crispy pizza rolls, air frying is the way to go.
No problem if you don’t have an air fryer because I get you covered. I’ve provided detailed instructions on a microwave or baking the frozen pizza roll for the best result below.
Why Cook Pizza Rolls in Air Fryer?
Air fryer frozen pizza rolls are easy, and no oil is needed. All you need is the frozen pizza rolls; they are filled with different pizza fillings and made by other brands. I used Ninja foodie to air fry the pizza rolls, but any brand you have will work too. It takes 5 to 7 minutes of baking time, and the pizza rolls are cooked to a perfect crispy roll.
How to Make Pizza Rolls in Air Fryer
1. Place about 25 frozen rolls in a single layer in an air fryer basket. The rolls should not overlap to get even baking.
2. Cook the pizza rolls for 4 minutes at 390 F . after the 4 minutes, remove the basket and shake well to mix the rolls. Put the basket back into the fryer to cook for 3 to 4 minutes or until crispy and golden brown.
3. Allow the cooked pizza to roll to stand for about 3 minutes for the cooking to complete, and the filling cools down a bit. Serve and enjoy.
CAUTION: the pizza roll filling will be very hot on the inside when they are fresh out of the air fryer, so be careful.
Tips for Air Frying Totinos Frozen Pizza Rolls
• when air frying pizza rolls, check on the pizza roll after the 4 minutes since not all air fryers are the same, and the cooking time will vary. If you don’t check them, they will be overcooked, the pizza rolls will start bursting, and the filling will be spilling all over.
• Make sure to place the pizza rolls in a single layer for best results. They will also cook faster and evenly as well. If you still want to cook more at a time, then stir them frequently during the cooking time.
• Do not wrap the frozen pizza roll in foil before cooking; otherwise, you will have soggy rolls.
• Make sure to cook the pizza roll thoroughly to an internal temperature of at least160 F.
• Keep the pizza roll frozen until ready to cook.
How To Serve Pizza Rolls
Dip them in ranch or blue cheese dressing or pizza sauce. You could also brush them with olive oil or butter and put Italian seasoning and parmesan to go with it.
These pizza rolls can be enjoyed plain with no sauce, and they taste good.
How to Store Leftover Pizza Rolls
Leftover pizza rolls can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up 3 days.
Reheat the rolls in the air fryer for 2 minutes or until heated through when ready to eat. You can also reheat them using the microwave and cook them for 40- 60 minutes. A toaster oven can also be used for reheating the pizza rolls.
Can You Cook Frozen Pizza Rolls in the Air Fryer?
Yes, frozen pizza rolls can be cooked in the air fryer, and they make the crispiest roll. Also, you should not thaw the frozen rolls before cooking. This reduces the risk of food contamination.
How Long do You Cook Pizza Rolls in an Air Fryer?
Pizza rolls will cook at 390 F for about 5 to 8 minutes in an air fryer. But the exact time will depend on the type of air fryer you are using. The more powerful the air fryer, the shorter the time needed to cook.
Another thing is the number of pizza rolls placed into the basket will also affect the cooking time. The more pizza rolls in the basket, the more cooking time is needed to cook them. The best way is to check on the pizza rolls after 4 minutes of cooking them.
How to Make Pizza Rolls Extra Crispy
Even though oil is not needed to cook the pizza roll in the air fryer, spraying a little olive oil on them before baking adds extra crispiness to the pizza roll.
Why Does Pizza Rolls explode?
Pizza rolls usually explode and spill all over when you overcook them. This results from overheating and expansion of the sauce inside the rolls. Start checking on the pizza rolls after 4 minutes to prevent the explosion.
How to Cook the Frozen Pizza Roll in the Oven
I know that not everyone has an air fryer, but most people will have an oven, and you should be able to enjoy these pizza roll snacks.
Start by preheating your oven to 425 F and line the baking sheet with parchment paper. Place the frozen pizza rolls on the parchment paper in a single layer. Bake the rolls for about 14 to 16 minutes or until golden brown, and the internal temperature reaches 160 F.
How To Cook the Frozen Pizza Rolls in the Microwave
Microwave is the fasted way to cook the pizza rolls at home but does not produce the crispiest roll. However, you can still use it for cooking the rolls.
Place the rolls in a single layer on a microwave-safe plate. Then microwave on high for 2 to 3 minutes or until the internal temperature reaches 160 F.
Allow the pizza rolls to stand for about 2 minutes to complete the cooking and cool down. The filling will still be very hot, so be careful on the first bite.
You have its air fryer pizza roll, and it can’t be any easier than this.
