4th July Baked Donuts

These are ready in 30 minutes and made from scratch. These baked donuts are delicious and moist; you will surely please your guest.

Ingredients
  

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 6 tablespoons unsalted butter- melted
  • cup sugar
  • 4 tablespoons honey
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ¾ cup buttermilk
  • Food coloring blue and red
  • Glaze
  • 3 tablespoons whipping cream
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 4th July sprinkles

Instructions
 

  • Preheat the oven to 400 F. Spray 12 cavities of doughnut pans and set aside.
  • Whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt in a medium bowl, and set aside.
  • Combine butter, sugar, honey, eggs, vanilla, and whisk in a separate bowl. Add the buttermilk to the egg mixture and mix. Whisk in the dry ingredients and mix to combine.
  • Divide the batter into three bowls, and leave one plain and add the food colors to the two bowls.
  • Pour the mixture into the piping bags and pipe into the donut pans filling about ¼ inch of the top.
  • Bake the donuts for 7 – 8 minutes.
  • Let it cool in the pan for 1 minute and transfer them onto a cooling rack to cool.
  • Make the Glaze
  • Whisk together whipping cream, powdered sugar, and vanilla in a small bowl. Thin with more milk to the spreadable consistency
  • Dip the donuts in the glaze and allow the glaze to set at room temperature on the cooling rack.

Notes

Quick Tips
If you don’t have a donut pan, no problem; I got your back. You can use a muffin pan instead to make donut muffins. You will reduce the heat to 375F and bake for 15 to 18 minutes or until slightly browned; a toothpick is inserted into it, and it comes out clean.
Use room temperature ingredients for easy mixing and fluffier donuts.
Storage Tips
You can freeze the donuts for up to 2 months. Thaw overnight in the refrigerator and warm up to your liking in the microwave. I usually zap them for a couple of seconds.
